Tofu is a wonderful source of protein. It is also full of iron and calcium. A lot of vegetarians prefer this as an alternative source of protein. This ingredient is so versatile and you can cook it in any way you want. One popular way is through the Asian Garlic tofu recipe.
This dish is flavorful and packed with nutrients. It has a sprinkling of salty, sweet, and spicy flavors. The broccoli adds a unique texture. It’s a delightful vegetarian meal. Here is how you can cook it.
Prepare the tofu
The tofu is the key ingredient. The goal is to make it ready to be crispy later on. It can be challenging but the steps are quite easy to do. Get one very firm tofu and wrap it in a lot of paper towels. Place something heavy on the top so that the tofu is pressed down. You can use any kitchen equipment you have. We recommend you try a cast iron pan.
Let that sit for a while. The longer you do it, the better. Regularly change the towels as they will get wet.
Prepare the sauce
Take a medium-sized bowl. In it, mix a quarter cup of Hoisin sauce, two tablespoons of soy sauce, one teaspoon of sugar, one teaspoon of freshly grated ginger, two cloves of minced garlic, and some red pepper flakes. Let the mixture sit for a while.
Get your tofu and cut it into small pieces. We recommend cutting it in bite-sized portions. Then, carefully transfer the pieces into the bowl with the sauce. Toss it carefully. Let it marinade for about thirty minutes. For more flavor, you can let it sit for a longer period of time.
Get to cooking
Place some olive oil in a cooking pan. Set the flame to medium-high. Once the pan is uniformly hot, pour in the tofu. Do not move the tofu around so much. Let it sear on one side until it is golden brown, and then flip to cook the other sides.
Pour some sesame oil over the tofu. After a while, remove it from heat. You can add some broccolis while you are searing the tofu. As a finishing touch, sprinkle some green onions on top. Serve the tofu with some rice.
